Hey all - new to burst!

Hey all! Just have to say I appreciate how welcoming this forum is. It’s a breath of fresh air and a comfort after experiencing the challenges of getting started: syncing the blockchain, plotting, failing to set award recipient because that one faucet coin went away on setting the account name.

Could I impose on your generosity one more time so that I can bootstrap my mining setup? I think I have plotting, blago config and the pool all set up – but I’m afraid I can’t kick it off without setting the recipient!

Welcome @flippantdog I’m glad you like the forum

Sending over a coin! Below is some information regarding getting started, if you’re interested, though I think you are past that point.

Read the information below carefully, because this is the only coin I’m sending you  With the amount of coins I am giving out daily now, I’m trying to get people to conserve coins when starting off so I can help out more people. If possible, please help out any new person needing a coin. Donations are also welcome to help me start new people off  BURST-FFLQ-3QZJ-267R-F3QBX

Contrary to what most of the getting started guides say, you only need to create one transaction to “activate” your wallet. Changing your reward recipient to a pool for mining gets this done. Please read this post regarding activating your account - What It Means To Create Your Public Key (AKA “Activate” Your Account) - Simply Explained

Highly recommend https://0-100-pool.burst.cryptoguru.org/ pool for new miners! No fee, and run by the Burst developers! (0.5% fee will be enabled at the end of January 2018)

Thanks ryanw!

Would you know what’s the pool account for https://0-100-pool.burst.cryptoguru.org? The info page only has the numeric ID, and I’d like to use qbundle to set the recipient (it wants the BURST-XXXX format).

Also, any ideas why setting the reward recipient requires sending my passphrase to the pool? Even qbundle warns that it gets send as cleartext. Isn’t that like giving the pool owner access to extracting coins from my account?

Thanks again,

You can find the numeric or vice versa by looking up in the explorer. https://explore.burst.cryptoguru.org

It’s not sending your passphrase to the pool, you are just sending it to the network like any other transaction that modifies the blockchain.
